stylish but weak writing

Yang (Dong-gun Jang) defeats the greatest swordsman in a 500 year old war between two clans. He saves the last girl of the opposing clan. He escapes assassins to go to America's Old West to look for his friend who turned out to have passed away. He is followed by his former master intent on finishing the last of the enemy clan. In the dusty town of Lode, Lynne (Kate Bosworth) helps him reopen his friend's laundry service. She had survived the raping Colonel (Danny Huston) and his men to find sanctuary in the dusty desert town. Eight-Ball (Tony Cox) is building a ferris wheel to set down his traveling circus. Ronald (Geoffrey Rush) is a local drunk who is also a dead shot.

This starts with a little bit of humor but the writing is unable to maintain it. The writing fails again and again. Kate Bosworth is almost funny at times. There are tons of stylish action. The ending is muddled by the arrival of two different groups of bad guys. It actually diminishes the intensity and decreases the fun of the action. The style and the setup is pretty good but the writing lets it down.

Very much enjoyed the art, special effects, sets and acting

It is kind of a mix of high flying ninjas in crouching tiger hidden dragon meets the tough young woman alone in the west in the quick and the dead.

Reminded me a lot of some of Quentin Tarantino's stuff, but I liked this better. It seems there was less shock effect blood and more artfully done scenes, music and some real acting. There was however plenty of blood splatters and lots of cruel killing.

Some of the shots were tastefully done that I rewound and watched again. Great job with the slow motion stuff. Acting was good. Kate Bosworth did well. Geoffrey Rush did well but he didn't get enough screen time. Jang Dong-gun did very well.

The baby was a real treat to watch. Made me wonder if the baby was that expressive or was editing tricks. Probably both.

I would watch it again tomorrow.

Like eating 10 pounds of cotton candy.

Ninjas vs. ninjas vs. outlaw cowboys vs. circus freaks.

Violent, surreal, strange, and stylish, but nearly totally vacuous. I watched it, but regret I spent the time, because there is no here here. Purely a time-killer.

I'm desperately trying to write a longer review about this film, but it is so completely empty, that it's like trying to detail the nutritional benefits of cotton candy.

If I'm going to be totally honest, the people who will probably get the most out of this movie will almost certainly be under the influence of some illegal substance, since I don't think even alcohol would bend the mind enough to make this experience worthwhile.

Yeah, this was another movie that inspired me to scrub my Netflix queue, since I so hated myself for the time lost on this mindless fluff.
