It's a dirty business, but Clint Eastwood's up for another round

At this point, Harry Callahan's little more than a barnacle clinging to the SFPD. Yeah, he gets the job done, but how he stays on the force is a miracle. What's funny about it is how quick he is to tell his superiors to kiss off. "The Enforcer" doesn't have time to dwell on such matters, pitting him against both a group of militants and the horrors of Affirmative Action.

This is a decent entry into the series mostly because of Eastwood's scenes with mandated partner Tyne Daly. If you enjoy seeing what Callahan will do next, be it the creative to solution to a hostage scenario, or taking his anger out with a rocket launcher, then this is ideal product. What's disappointing is that Daly's pluck is wasted as she's dispatched to the murky fog that is Harry's former partners.

Like "Magnum Force", this isn't a patch on the original movie (will any of the sequels compare?), but it's Dirty Harry doing what he does.

The 3rd Film of the "Dirty Harry" Series

In this 3rd "Dirty Harry" film, San Francisco Inspector "Harry Callahan" (Clint Eastwood) is tasked with an assignment involving the theft of military arms by persons unknown. As bad as that might be, the theft also resulted in the death of Callahan's partner "Frank Digeorgio" (John Mitchum) as well. Not only that, but it's also during this time that Harry is informed that he must accept a brand new partner who happens to be an inexperienced female named "Kate Moore" (Tyne Daly). Needless to say, this doesn't please Inspector Callahan at all but these types of politics are nothing new to him. In any case, as the investigation unwinds it soon becomes clear that the group that stole the weapons is supposedly a small terrorist organization with plans to start a revolution using the weapons they have just obtained. In reality, however, the leader "Bobby Maxwell" (DeVeren Bookwalter) is actually in it for the money and is using some of the more ideological members of the group for his own selfish ends. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was a decent addition to the "Dirty Harry" series with Clint Eastwood performing in his usual high-level capacity. On the flip side, however, I didn't much care for the selection of Tyne Daly for the role of his partner as there didn't seem to be much chemistry between the two. Be that as it may, I liked this film for the most part and I have rated it accordingly. Slightly above average.

Good up until the end...then all logic is out the window!

This is the third Dirty Harry movie and the worst one so far. Why? Because although about 85% of the film is great, the ending is terrible in so many ways.

The story begins with a group that calls itself 'The People's Revolutionary Strike Force' strikes...killing a couple guys who appeared to be doing nobody any harm. They apparently wanted the truck the men had and use it to raid an incredibly poorly staffed government compound. There they steal M-16s, dynamite, and Laws rockets! With this, they plan on extorting the city out of millions. As usual, Harry has a partner killed AND his bosses are complete morons with little gray matter. Despite this, can the incredibly sexist Harry and his new partner (Tyne Daily) manage to thwart these maniacs (and I am referring to the People's Revolutionary Strike Force...not his bosses)?

Up until the film neared the climax, it was mostly good and a welcome addition to the franchise. Then, came an ending with more holes and logical errors than I could count!! First, when Harry and partner learn where the criminals are hold up (remember, they are armed to the teeth with the latest weapons), they tell no one...and get no backup. So, it's two cops with pistols against folks armed for Armageddon. Second, when the lady cop sees one of the terrorists and has a VERY clear shot at him, she yells 'FREEZE'! Why?! These are super-dangerous folks who have already killed a lot of folks...and she gives the guy a chance to escape?! Then, third, after she manages to shoot the guy with her snub-nosed .38, she doesn't bother to pick up the dead man's M-16 rifle!! Fourth, was the final scene where Harry shoots at the leader (who by now is without ammo) with a Laws Rocket...and somehow does not hit the Mayor who is about 10 feet away!! There were many other dumb moments...I just hit the highlights. Because of the dumb ending, I'd give this one a 5...watchable but silly.
