A great film that blends comedy and drama

The Best Man Holiday (2013), which is a follow up to The Best Man (1999), is a very well made film. Some say that sequels are cursed or whatever, but that is definitely not the case with this sequel. It boasts a great cast, which includes: Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Terrance Howard, and more. They all give fantastic performances, especially Diggs and Chestnut. Chemistry is another big thing here, because truthfully a movie such as this one can't work at all without good onscreen chemistry. The connections these characters have with one another, the friendships and romances, are all shown in a raw way, and it works so well. Your attention is aure to be held all the way through, I know mine was. The writing is funny when it needs to be, and it's beautiful and dramatic when it needs to be. This holiday film comes highly suggested, I had never seen the original 1999 film, but now I am encouraged to go do so. 9/10 for The Best Man Holiday.

Corny

I can't say I liked it. Making a good Christmas movie that is cosy and warm without begin corny and cliché-burdened is damn difficult. This one is waaaaay on the corny side of the spectrum, and that's too bad. There are some good laughs, though, and my girlfriend shed some tears, but that doesn't justify wading through two hours of mediocrity.

I Don't Care If Your Black Or White, You Have To See This Movie ASAP!

This movie is a triple threat of film excellence. Well written and well directed by Malcolm D. Lee and well acted by the all star ensemble cast just like a classic movie should be. Taye Diggs was brilliant and the energy with the fellas especially Terrence Howard's performance was spit on. And when Monica Calhoun's character died. OMG! There wasn't a dry eye in the packed house. I can't say enough good things about the movie and I didn't think that my brothers and sisters and the crowds of my church going people who went to see opening night thought it would be on another level like it was but it really was taking film making and storytelling to a deeper heart felt emotional level. I think it was the most underrated movie of the weekend box office when it came out and even still made a good opening weekend gross. Still I think that it should have been way more successful and got more buzz and the only reason that it didn't and that more people didn't go see it was that they thought it was a movie only for us black folks. Which is sad that America has this bias. I mean I don't go see a Bradley Cooper movie and think its just a movie just for white folks. It should be about the quality of the story the acting and the art of making films but that's just my thoughts about it. I'm just glad more high quality movies are being made with African Americans in the Lead.
