I don't know why people harp on this movie

It's not the greatest movie ever, no doubt. But it's not bad. As far as Science Fiction movies go, this is definitely one of the better ones, maybe the best in recent memory. It's science was dead on, having a NASA employee as a technical adviser certainly shows. As for the story, it's not out of the realm of science fiction, which is no more and no less than can really be expected. It keeps it's pace well and doesn't slow down to wax philosophic like a cheesy 50's Sci-Fi would have done. The plot progresses logically and doesn't tend to jump around (a thing that I HATE in a movie). It kept me entertained, which is more than I can say for a lot of movies today.

A mysogynistic, unoriginal piece of junk

Since the visuals are sort of ok and the overall look and feel is about on part with an average Star Trek episode, it's not exactly one star - but that's all it has going for it.

The women in this movie only exist to be had or saved by men that are little more than cavemen with modern technology. I don't know what teenager wrote the script, but they sure didn't pass up a chance to add in another sex scene. This movie would work as a basic plot for a soft porn production, except that the sex scenes are sterile and unimaginative.

If you feel the need to watch an endless series of dumb and bad decisions, incomprehensible motivations, weak subplots and ultimately a pointless story, Supernova is your thing. If not, and you actually prefer enjoying a movie, watch literally any other scifi.

This movie is a mess. Had a budget. Some decent scenes. Failure!

Started decent. We get to know a little about the characters. All decent actors, and some decent acting, nothing great. The story sucks. The dialogue is boring. The film is boring. The idea is OK, but it needed much more work before the cameras started to roll.

Basic idea is like Alien. For the record, I hate Alien, worst acted, characters, etc, just plain garbage. Back to this film. We have a small crew of people that we are supposed to care for or what is going on. We can't. The story is just garbage. The more I think about it the worst it gets. I've seen this movie twice now. First time years ago, and again last night. While watching it had some decent visuals. But the story is plain boring. The best part was the editing. At least scenes didn't linger on and on, and it didn't have stupid quick cuts. The music was decent too. But the story, characters, dialogue all are just plain boring. Visually it was decent, but then again, it looked a little too cartoon.

Rating is a C-, maybe 4 stars at best. Not recommended.

After reading a bunch of reviews, and considering the film, I am now revising my rating to an F, 1 star. This movie has no business being a movie. What is the movie about? It's a mess. A hospital ship responds to a distress call and it finds a life killing device, and a supernova explodes. We find out very little of the device, the supernova is only there and has nothing to do with this life killing device. It's just there for the FX. Basically, it's a movie with talented actors, with decent editing and music. Some decent fx. The plot and dialogue is so boring, this movie should not have been made.

What's the deal with the captain switching places with another crew member in the pod. He knew it was defective but sacrificed his life. For what? Unexplained, and we will never know, because as far as I can tell the writers didn't know, or knew and forgot to write it in the script. So, what we get is the captain dying in a mess. For what, special effects?

For some reason we get sex scenes and some discussions of fertility, without any background. At the end, the surviving woman is pregnant. What is the significance of this to the 1) life killing device 2) the supernova 3) to their society 4) that the supernova will bring the life killing wave to earth in 51 years? Someone please explain. This is just stupid story writing.

The kill scenes are a mess. So, even as a slasher it's garbage. The device enhanced superhuman dude gets killed with a bomb held by the robot in a WWI fighter outfit. Not good.

It's a mess. And a sad joke to filmmakers with talent that can't get their films produced because funding goes to garbage films like this.

Failure, F, 1 star.
