80s trash - in a bad way

The only thing shocking about this turkey is its rating - 5.9??? You're kidding me. I gave it a 1 out of 10 because it is truly one of the worst movies I've seen. Top to bottom, left to right: it's garbage.

Pizza place employee, a sometime guitarist, comes across a voodoo woman, or something, that somehow has the power to grant wishes (?). Out of all possible wishes, he chooses to play the guitar well (!!!!). Wow, great choice. He encounters her in the middle of the day at the pizza shop where he works - not at night, in a dark, mysterious alley.

So the ability to play the guitar well translates into him also, somehow, being able to instantly live in a mansion with three hot chicks. Where did the mansion come from? Where did all the money come from to support all of this?

Also, why has no one asked him, "Wow, your talent is incredible. Why has no one ever seen you before, ever? Also, why haven't you ever been in any other band previously?"

Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. Unbearable. I actually couldn't finish it - I got about an hour and 15 minutes into it before I had to turn it off. 100% trash.

An absolute hoot.

The delectable Traci Lords is the star attraction of this howler of a B flick. Another addition to the "horror & heavy metal" sub genre, it stars a dude named Stephen Quadros as Martin, a loser employee at a pizza joint. Ordered around by the gruff boss Tony (Aldo Ray, in his last film role), he craves success as a rock 'n' roll guitarist. Unfortunately, he sucks, but after a bungled audition, he makes a deal with Satan via a voodoo priestess (Tyger Sodipe, who deliciously overplays her role). He is reborn as a guitar god named Angel with awesome 80s hair. Of course, his newfound abilities come at a price: he can no longer consume ordinary food, but must derive sustenance from peoples' souls.

Traci, looking as ravishing as ever, may have been hired for her name value, but this is more Quadros' story and movie. He's believable as both the hopeless nerd and his head banging alter ego. Markus Grupa is amusing as the effeminate singer Jonny, whom Angel replaces in a rather aggressive manner. Tim Moffett is the requisite hero as bass player Greg, who is engaged to Tracis' band manager character. Also hired for name value is another veteran, Troy Donahue, who is good as a sleaze ball record executive.

The movie is much more campy & cheesy than scary *or* creepy, but this does give it some entertainment value. Both the visual and the makeup effects are very damn crude; they must have been done for next to nothing. The music is sometimes fun, and sometimes it's cringe-inducing yet catchy in spite of itself. Best of all is when the movie focuses on Angels' new entourage of babes: Karen Russell ("Tenement") as Michelle, Gina Parks as Marilyn, and Laurel Wiley as Monique. There's no shortage of very sexy women to fill out roles (and costumes).

Dopey beyond belief, but it's not without its pleasures, such as when Angel satisfyingly deals with Jonny.

Six out of 10.

I don't go down on my knees......

Martin is a loser, with a mundane life. When he fails an audition as guitar player in Lindsay's band, and loses his job on the way, he makes a deal with a Voodoo priestess.

She promises him the fulfilment of all his dreams if he swears obedience to her.

He becomes a rock star and has many women - but to stay alive, he has to kill other people........

If the main protagonist was an endearing character, the type of person who was a loser,a but deserved of a better life, then you would have some sort of anti-hero to root for.......even if it did mean killing people to survive.

But no, Martin is an abhorrent sloth like human being, the type of omnipotent person who thinks that they don't have to work hard to get reach their goals, and if someone is critical of them, they are wrong.

Martin is the type of person who spies on naked women, doesn't take kindly to orders, so I thought in some strange way, the gift he would be given, may just change him a little.

But no, he turns into a more parasitic morsel, and he's supposed to be the character that the narrative revolves around?

The rest of the film is just chock full of bad music, bad hair, and nudity for the sake of nudity.

If you haven't heard of this film before, it's for a good reason, it's not very good, and looks cheap.

Amid the cheap shots at Ozzy, and featuring minor roles for once prolific actors, Shock 'Em Dead makes no sense, just like its title.

Stick with Once Bitten or Vampires Kiss.
