twist ending crashes the car

Judith Merrick (Greta Scacchi) survives a car crash but her husband Dan Merrick (Tom Berenger) suffered facial trauma and amnesia. They try to go on but he can't remember their lives together from before. He finds evidence of her cheating on him with Jack Stanton which was gathered by private investigator Gus Klein (Bob Hoskins). Gus checks the accident and finds discrepancies. Dan's business partner Jeb Scott (Corbin Bernsen) is not happy with his work. Jenny (Joanne Whalley-Kilmer) is his wife. Suspicion rises that Judith had tried to kill Dan.

It's an intriguing mystery although I don't like the constant micro-flashbacks. This reminds me of an old Hitchcock mystery with less style. Some of the shooting style is fairly old school and they use too much fog. The deliberate style is too noticeable. I stayed with the story with all the twists and then there is the one gigantic twist ending. It's too unlikely to work. The way to make the story work better is for Dan to have some facial disfigurements. It's just so unreal that it makes the movie feels like it's cheating.

Well worth watching

I am surprised I've never seen this movie before. Obviously it's one of those under-rated gems that slipped under the radar. I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller. Nicely produced & well acted with some gorgeous camera work and tight editing to help with the suspense and drawing the viewer in. The music was a bit hit and miss - but that's fairly typical of the era - otherwise I think it has aged pretty well. Bob Hodgkins delivers a little cracker of a performance in his character. Loved the animals scenes :D and the touches of humour. All in all a fantastic little movie! Apparently I don't have enough lines of text but I really don't have any more to add. Just watch it! It'll be worth it.

a major complaint

I really like this movie a lot. For a few years, it looked like Greta Scacchi was really going to become a major sex symbol. I wonder what happened.

I do have one big complaint -- not about the movie itself but about the IMDb page. As of today, if you look under quotes, the very first quote completely gives away the secret of the movie. I hope something can be done about that. I'm not really giving a spoiler, just pointing one out that's already there.

Tom Berenger and Bob Hoskins are excellent. Corbin Bernsen is OK in a Corbin Bernsen sort of way. Good story, great twist. I'd recommend it to anymore, but please, get rid of that spoiler.
