A Complete Waste Of Time

An unintentional parody of Robin Hood that is a failure in every way.

The cast is good, but everything else is a disaster. The costume design is hilarious, and the dialogues are comically bad.

The film would work well as a parody. Hairstyles and makeup are really hilarious, the plot is supposed to be medieval, and it looks like a movie about superheroes.

The script is so bad that it's almost unbelievable that this was filmed at all. Modern expressions and dialogues make this film even worse than its appearance itself. Most of today's film production is trash, but I still thought this film would at least be fun, but it didn't even succeed in that.

Viewers want fun, not cheap costume design and forced dialogues. The villains are a complete parody, but the writers obviously couldn't have come up with anything better.

I read that the film was a financial failure, which is not necessarily a reflection of the quality of the film, but in this case it is quite understandable why the film was a failure.

Watching this movie was a complete waste of time.

This Turkey Came Early For Xmas!

This turkey came early for Christmas. From start to finish it was a total disaster, I think possibly the worst movie of the year I have seen except for The Hate U Give.

The story was derivative, we had the mines of Mordor, the staging of Game of Thrones. The acting was forced and the script banal.

Now some specifics

Themes- we had austerity, we had child abuse, we had powerful women resisting oppressive men, we had food and clothes being handed out, we had political action, all this is was so contrived.

Styling-all the clothes came from Primark and Friar Tuck had been to Specsavers, and denim was worn thoughtout, a modern setting destroyed this story and it all far to clean.

Music- it was like Gladiator and just as intrusive

Casting- the Lord had an east end accent, Little John was inserted as a token black person. Anyone who was wealthy was a raper of the poor, it just goes on and on.

Please avoid this drivel, why was it made and why did I sit through it, who knows!

better than recent others

Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton) is a minor lord in Nottingham and a minor thief. He's happy to live a comfortable life with his love Marian (Eve Hewson) until he is drafted to fight the Crusade. In Arabia, he comes to the aid of enemy prisoner Little John (Jamie Foxx) and his son. The son is killed anyways and Little John loses a hand. When Robin returns home, the Sheriff of Nottingham (Ben Mendelsohn) had stolen everything from everyone including his estate. Little John joins him after stowaway on his ship. Marian had thought that he had been killed. Will Scarlet (Jamie Dornan) is a lord trying to care for the villagers who have been forced to work in the mines. With Little John's help, Robin becomes the Hood, a vigilant stealing from the Sheriff and giving to the poor.

History accuracy be damned. From the machine gun crossbows to the high wire arrow work, it is a movie of ludicrous action. One has to overlook a lot of questionable writing. It should be easy for Little John to be motivated by a life debt for his son. Instead, it's a lot mumble jumble about anti-war social justice. I have no problem with that in general but his son's death is so much more personally powerful. There is still fun to be had despite the wonky writing. It's better than some of those other recent Robin Hood reworks. For that, I give this a passing mark.
