This movie is awesome.

I don't know what it is about this film. And yes I said film..

Maybe it is Patrick Swayze and his glorious mullet, But I enjoy this movie. It's like a Kurosawa film, set around a honky tonk in a small town in America. The rough, blue collar bar setting is wonderfully ironic given the complex themes explored in the story. The fights are like ancient duels between men.

Drawing you in is the contemplation of greed vs honor and righteousness vs killing, Compelling you to continue watching despite your initial impression that this was just another B rate 80s movie. And then there's Patrick Swayze and his glorious mullet.

This film just works.

Easy watch

This really is one of those guilty pleasures - a inane movie, but possessed of so many elements for guys to enjoy, mainly regular bouts of ass-kicking, that a guy has to watch it about once a year to get his fix of adrenaline and a picture of how the world should work. The movie has its own rules and an internal structure mostly explained by the character of Dalton (Swayze), a supervisor of bouncers termed a Cooler. When certain entertainment establishments become too lowbrow and rowdy on a nightly basis, someone like Dalton is hired on to show all the patrons how to behave in a civilized manner. He has a degree in philosophy to help facilitate his instruction, plus some martial arts disciplines. In this world of bouncers, club owners, and alcohol dispensers, Dalton has a mighty rep - they've all heard of him,

I didn't think it would be quite this bad...

I'm not the biggest fan of Swayze, but just knowing this was such an iconic movie from the 80s, one you find references to even to this day, I guess I just thought it would be something more than what it was. In terms of plot and characters, all I can say is everything is just stale, or cliché. It's hard to take anything in this movie seriously. There's no one who is particularly likable, at one point Swayze rips a guy's throat out in front of the dude's girlfriend and it just left a bad taste in my mouth. There's better Swayze movies, there's definitely better 80s action movies, I'd say you could probably pass on this one if you're looking for either one of those.
