oh my

OK, so Steve Miner's "Lake Placid" contains a collection of clich├ęd characters - the sarcastic locals, the eccentric millionaire, and the scientist woman who freaks out at the sight of anything unpleasant - but you gotta love some of the things that the movie shows. When it got released, Entertainment Weekly's review of it was titled WHAT A CROC OF... and called it a monstrosity that sinks to the bottom. While obviously not any sort of high-value cinema, it's still a fun movie. The most interesting person in the movie is Betty White's character. She seems like the typical nice old lady, but she turns out to have a sharp tongue.

Basically, the movie makes no pretense about what it is. I suspect that they had fun filming it. Producer David E. Kelley (Michelle Pfeiffer's husband) is best known for shows like "Ally McBeal" and is now behind "Big Little Lies".

Well worth viewing

I like this big monster cheesy horror. It reminds me of Anaconda (1997). There is nothing wrong with it at all. It is fast paced with a little gore and some strong horror. I love to hate the characters and it is funny enough to entertain when there is no giant crocodile eating people. One of the most enjoyable giant monster movies out there. Well worth viewing.

Anyone who gave this a really low score is a disappointment

The entire movie is littered with original and well-delivered sarcasm, perfect for this genre.

If anyone gave it less then a 6/10 they didn't get the wit, or only like violence for violence sake. If you want to see everyone die, this was not your movie. But if you appreciate characters upping each other with sarcasm every other scene, then you picked the right movie.

And Gleeson is brilliant as usual. Hard to think of any actors who can deliver lines as dryly as him.

I would have given it a higher rating, but it did wander plot-wise at different moments throughout. Also i haven't been able to put my finger on it, but something was missing and i think it was character arc. No one really goes through any changes really, except the Oliver Platt character, and he was pretty shallow to start so... Could have used some more depth to their emotional states, but that did not hurt it at all as far as a summer ride type movie...
