Jonah Hex: Almost as bad as they say

Jonah Hex is in the history books as one of the biggest flops in movie history, not only did it bomb financially but it was connected to a whole host of negative awards such as worst actor, worst actress, worst on screen couple and worst movie.

But how do you make a movie that stars Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Michael Shannon and co bad?! Well, this is how.

I think what is even more surprising is that this is a DC effort, and may we never see Jonah somehow added to the universe they are creating.

Jonah Hex tells the tale of the titular character on a quest for revenge after a man murderers his family and mutilates his face. He becomes a bounty hunter, righting wrongs and hunting the man who took everything from him.

The cast is solid, in fact the cast is so solid that even Megan Fox delivered a decent performance (I don't understand the criticism of her accent) and Fassbender (Who I can't stand) actually was entertaining here.;

So what went wrong? Primarily because it's copy and paste predictible brainless Hollywood nonsense. It's like there is a template that people use and just interchange the setting and characters.

It's not THAT bad, but it's a generic paint by numbers dumb movie that is too violent for kids and too moronic for adults.

The Good:

Fassbender's was excellent

The Bad:

Megan Fox

Contains one of the dumbest movie deaths of all time

The whole thing is just so very bog standard

Things I Learnt From This Movie:

I want me some of those explosive crossbows!

Megan Fox isn't entirely useless, just 98.5%

Feels rushed and messy

Jonah Hex has been highly criticized from critics and fans alike, and offered a poor run at the box office. With a run time of 81 minutes, the film does move quite slowly in the beginning but after around halfway (once Michael Fassbender's character is introduced more so) it picks up the pace. Although we see the flaws in the film in that it feels rushed, messy and not completely interesting or enjoyable. It reminds somewhat of Ghost Rider (2007) but that film had a more thought-out plot, better backstory, better villains and overall slightly more intriguing.

Though it has some decent ideas, we can see why the film was considered a misfire. Even with the faults, the film isn't long enough for a complete disaster and some of the scenery's are quite nice and fight scenes towards the end are entertaining. Josh Brolin plays his role well, and Megan Fox is there for eye candy. Overall Jonah Hex may surprise those wanting something quick and entertaining, and may be better than expecting.

Jonah Hex

I didn't wait long enough, apparently, to finally see this movie. The cast is very strong, but the story is weak. The directing is almost as weak. Too bad too as this was a wasted opportunity. Hex is a very strong, very interesting character. Like Marvel's Ghost Rider, I'm not sure why studios chose weak approaches to these kinds of characters. There is almost no development of anyone in this film. The short origin explanation at the beginning is all the audience gets, presumably because the rest of the story is just too strong to bog it down with character development. Sigh.
