Another rehash of A Christmas Carol

What would Charles Dickens think if he could see his work, his masterpieces manhandled in such a reckless way?

Quite obvious for all to see, "Ghosts of girlfriends past" is just another pathetic rip off of "A Christmas Carol", yes there's enough differences to make this film unique in its own right, but there's no denying where the blatant inspiration came from.

'You will be visited by three ghosts...' yeah-yeah we all get it, only these three ghosts are of course not the ghosts of Christmas, but the ghosts of former girlfriends, sounds pretty lame right? That's because the film is as lame as it gets, but enjoyable all the same.

Trying to become a serious actor, Matthew McConaughey takes a series bump in the road and a serious dent in the resume by taking on the role of super-stud Connor Mead..., a guy who is now an Academy Award winner and genuine leading man should realistically be avoiding films like this because they are somewhat beneath him. Yet here we are, his performance was pretty decent in all honesty, but could he have afforded to give any less?

It was McConaughey's A-list performance that gave a real boost to the overall film, for I felt that without him the film wouldn't have been anywhere near as good it was, and the film as it is barely gets a passing grade.

Michael Douglas as the dearly departed Uncle Wayne was another standout performance, Douglas really didn't need the role but at his age I guess he can do what he wants, he's earned it.

Sadly I felt that Jennifer Garner wrote her performance in and didn't truly seem committed to the role, something she seems to do in a lot of her films and probably the main cause for why her career has probably been held down.

Out of the supporting cast there's a recognisable name, a youngish Emma Stone has a semi-important role, this of course during the early days of her fledgling career, she would of course go onto bigger and better things; as for the rest of the supporting cast, there's a who's who of who's that? Character actors of no real fame getting lucky by landing a role in a mainstream production, some were okay, some weren't, nothing to write home about.

"Ghosts of girlfriends past" can easily be defined as a chic-flick and that's basically all it is, don't expect any major thrills but it's an easy way to kill an hour or two.

Wastes a good cast

Though it faces stiff competition this is one of the weirder adaptations (albeit loose) of Dickens's 'A Christmas Carol'.

This film wastes its cast by serving them up a weak script that apart from Emma Stone's wonderfully daft character does nobody any favours.

They spend so long making the Matthew McConaughey character horrible that they then don't spend long enough trying to prove to us why he is worthy of Jennifer Garner's heart.

It's an odd film in general, and not an overly convincing one. The less said about Michael Douglas's part too the better.

Rejection can be painful

This movie is in a way very close to my heart because it mirrors me in a way and my early days I love this movie for several reasons 1) I is a "Christmas Carol" themed moves of what life was, is and will be in the future if things are left unchanged 2) I like Jennifer Garner movies 3) and finally it is a reflection on what MIGHT HAVE BEEN for me because of what happened to the hero also happened to me except in my case it was a girl that humiliated me in front of my friends turning me into a woman hater Except I never went the screw them all route I just wanted nothing to do with girls until Linda (my wife) came and stole my heart and showed me how wonderful woman could really be Today I love girls but my one and only girl is my wife Linda who showed me what love is truly all about I have no regrets about canceling my War game date to go out with Linda when she phoned to ask me out Best decision I ever made It is sadly a reflection of life in general and how one slip up can ruin a persons life One has to get back in there and stick it out Michael Douglas as Connors mentor did a good job messing up Connors life's but in the end he like Marley saw the error of his ways and came to Correct them before it was too late One thing that does stick out a lot is no matter which version of a Christmas Carol you watch the First ghost always seems to have the biggest cheeky and care free attitude Love this movie
