Watched this not realising it was a sequel

I found Fletch Lives mildly amusing in parts in particular Chevy's comic timing. the plot itself is a tad weak though the screen is filled with comedy genius when Chevy is in many of his multiple disguises I did laugh when he quickly changed character when he was caught snooping about at night by the security guard.

An Honest Review

I can understand a lot of the hate, or at least where its coming from. When I was a little kid and this first came out, most of it went right over my head...now that I am older, much, MUCH, older the fact that they are stereotyping the South in the most negative way possible is crystal clear.

But hey, it's still funny and a lot of what they are poking fun at is still true today. I mean, there are places where I make sure my St. Christopher's medal is well hidden out of fear I'll be lynched for being Catholic and I am a white male.

I guess what I am saying is that, it is a negative stereotype that certainly only applies to a minority, and a minority that is shrinking every day, but still one that has been well earned.

So...chill, its all nothing but jokes, don't be as sensitive as us "PC Liberals" that you are always complaining are too sensitive. They are jokes, they are funny, and as a nation we really need to learn how to laugh at ourselves again.

A lesser, but just-about-acceptable, sequel

FLETCH LIVES is something of a lacklustre sequel to the original spy comedy, featuring as it does over-obvious humour and a kind of anything-goes mentality that means the screenplay is a lot looser and more scattershot than in the original movie. Chevy Chase returns to the titular role, this time involved in another mystery and travelling to the southern states to irresponsibly romance women and don a number of disguises. I found the bumbling humour soon wore thin and even the presence of numerous character actor reliables such as R. Lee Ermey and Hal Holbrook failed to lift the spirits very much. Only a few of the set-pieces, such as the KKK one, work well.
