Ridiculous, but loads of fun

"Eraser" isn't quite as insane as "Commando" because let's face it, no movie will ever be. But still, it strikes exactly the right tone you need in a Schwarzenegger movie. Arnold goes from one over-the-top action set piece to another, jumping out of planes, strolling through gunfire and even feeding villains to some terrible CGI crocodiles at one point. It's old school action at its finest, with Schwarzenegger chewing the scenery like only he can. Obviously, "Eraser" isn't perfect. For one thing, it's glaringly obvious who the 'leak' is within Arnold's squad, but somehow the makers still treat it like it's a huge reveal that you could have never seen coming. Also, Vanessa Williams gives a very flat performance as the damsel in distress, so you don't care much whether she stays alive or not. However, these flaws don't really hurt the overall experience.

Not as tight as it should be

Well, you could do a lot worse than "Eraser", but it's not the best of Arnold's movies, or even his '90s output. There are some decent action scenes, but the brake pedal gets stomped in between. For all of his outlandish stunts, this is a surprisingly long movie.

It's the supporting cast (James Caan, Robert Pastorelli, and the stunning Vanessa Williams) that make it as good as it is.

Although more CGI crocs couldn't have hurt.

Awful special effects, corny one liners, and watchable at the same time.

When this movie was released back in 1996 it was as impressive as action movies of today, but now with the advance in technology and CGI moving up to a completely new level, the special effects in Eraser look awful, however the shoot out scenes still look good. The worst scene is the scene with the aeroplane, you will start to question if this is the best that they could do to make it an action movie.

The acting is okay apart from when they start with the corny one-liners during a literal life and death crisis. The scene with the shoot out in the zoo is the second worse scene and the cheesy lines "You're late", "Traffic", make the film look even worse.

Eraser did a few things right, one of them being that they didn't end the movie in a love interest scenario, the Trivia says a love-romantic- interest scene was filmed, but didn't go down well with the test audience, it's a good thing, at least it didn't become too cliché.

The plot isn't exactly original, but it isn't awful.

Eraser is worth watching if you can't find anything else to watch.
