It's in the script

I was thinking just the other day, what genre hasn't been sodomized by the hand held camera genre? It seems the latest and certainly not greatest to the list is martial art fighting. Four men learn to fight from the Shaolin monastery. They make a video short that receives recognition. The next thing you know, one of their girls is kidnapped and they are forced to perform all kinds of crime and do fighting as a gauntlet of planted cams watches their every move. The dialogue and acting was bad. Jess Allen should retire if this is his best.

If you want to watch it simply for the fighting, there is enough of that, but don't expect a plot you can get into.

Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

Average plot excellent fights poor acting

The acting in this movie is terrible, there is absolutely no feelings behind their words and I couldn't root for the characters. They fight to save someone's life and yet they act like they are grocery shopping. The highest point of the film are the fight scenes : well exectuted, flashy and impressive, it would have been much enjoyable to just watch a cut of all these scenes. Somehow the plot twist at the end of the movie surprised me and brought some satisfaction. The movie Dou fo sin (2007) shared some flaws with this movie : awesome fights but a boring story line with correct acting. So I'd recommend watching Dou fo sin over this one.

Cliché story, bad acting, and good but copied choreography.

I watched this because i am a fan of martial arts, films, and thus martial arts film choreography.

The Good : martial scenes are energetic, fast, well executed, with an occasional variation of a move we have seen before.

The Bad : The acting is really bad. At first i don't mind because i thought these were just ordinary stunt men and not actors, so it was interesting to see how they react if they get entangled in a situation like the one they are in. But then you can't bear with it for long. It is really bad acting. And afterwards i realized the film premise is that they ARE actors in the film. So it's even worse.

Another bad thing is some dialogue which is super cliché.

Also, the choreography is also copy-paste from other films and actors like Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Sammo Hung, etc, who did all this decades ago. No originality. Pity.

You can fast forward to check the fight scenes, and even then you will not be impressed if you have watched good martial arts films in the past.
