Pretty adorable

Dad's Army is one of those adorable, "old guys still got it" movies that comes out every once in a while, sprinkled in among the "let's make fun of old people" movies that are never any good. Starring Bill Nighy, Toby Jones, Michael Gambon, Tom Courtenay, and Bill Paterson, a group of over-the-hill volunteers is in charge of protecting their town during WWII. No one really takes them seriously, and when Catherine Zeta-Jones shows up and starts charming everyone in the regiment, that doesn't make them any more credible.

This is a very cute movie and has plenty of classic British gags, if you like that type of humor. If you usually groan and try to avoid British humor-and if you prefer your leading men to be under fifty-you probably won't like this one. I thought it was adorable, and I always find Bill Nighy dashing, no matter what age he is. Plus, when you least expect it, you get to watch a very exciting and suspenseful battle scene!

They said that about the Ripper.

In the spring of 1944 a group of guardsmen protect the town of "Walington on the Sea." They take on aspects of the "Keystone Cops" as they fumble through their drills, lead by George (Toby Jones) "a man with vision" when he is wearing his glasses. When the refined Rose Wilson (Catherine Zeta-Jones) shows up as a journalist doing a story, the men fall all over themselves as the woman folk of the town work to protect their claim. Rose is a spy for the Germans, something two elderly women figure out early in the film.

I liked the film because it reminded me of my own father who served in WWII, not in the front lines, but guarding the coast of North Carolina...but that didn't deter him from telling "war" stories. Today his tall tales would brand him as a liar and a disgrace to everyone who served, etc. But I still loved them. Bill Nighy did his type cast job as a former Oxford professor.

The film had its humorous moments as the women come to the rescue.

No swearing sex, or nudity.

Not funny poor comedy timing.. gave up after 30mins

The modern take on Dads Army had a lot to live up to and failed. The problem is this, we have all grown up with the original characters which are ingrained in the national psyche. We all love the original Pike, Wilson, Jones and Mannering who the later delivered his lines with brilliant comic timing. I gave up after 30mins as I got bored me thinks it was with the Rose Winters character play by Catherine zeta- Jones, nice on the eye but irritating in this.
