That's not so good Al...

If you ever wanted a good example of irony, this is it. Once again, these artists are taken advantage of, this time by the movie industry. The very fact that they failed to use the amazing original recordings of these artist(most likely to save on production costs)shows that the filmmaker had ultimately no real interest in their music or history, and just wanted to make some money(and keep it all for themselves again). The one and only redeeming quality of this movie is that hopefully, people who watch it will find the REAL recordings of these artist and actually LISTEN to them. I myself don't care about their personal lives. I just love the music.

Rather boring, as someone said, it didn't concentrate on most of the artists music

I honestly thought this movie was yawn, there was no upbeat but instead, it was just dull and pulling out different singers one by one. It made the movie become more confusing for me to know what really is happening with the legendary stars who have signed up to this Chess Records company.

If the maker of the movie didn't have to pile a lot of stars on this, it would make life easier to watch and enjoy this biography movie. However it just made it complicated for me to go on further and I was disappointed really. Although I am not a big fan of Beyonce, I thought one song wasn't enough for her to keep the movie going smoothly..

Waste of time this was!

Good at first, then not so.

I enjoyed the early part of the film, but then, after about halfway through, things about it started to annoy me. First, even though it may be historically correct, everybody smokes all the time. Second, the cars never seem to be from the decade from which they're supposed to be. Fifties cars during the forties, etc. If a studio has to rent cars for period pictures, why not get the correct ones? Lastly, some of the characters, such as Howling wolf, who just glares at everyone all the time, did not ring true. The character who takes off the doors of his '58 Caddy (it was probably 1955 in the story), then sasses the police is way over the top. I turned it off when Leonard Chess is dealing with some woman who appears to be having a meltdown, apparently over nothing. Probably the best thing about the film is the music.
